Residency Status

Foster youth who are under the age of 19 and whose child welfare case was under the jurisdiction of a California County, but who were living in another state, are entitled to residency status at California’s public colleges and universities.

  • What it means: California residents pay lesser tuition than out-of-state students. But if your child welfare case was under the jurisdiction of a California County, even if you have been living in a different state, you still qualify for tuition as a California resident.
